Meet Our Therapists

Heather Mikkelsen
BSW MSW RSW
Founder & CEO
Beginning therapy is a meaningful step, and at Heal Therapy Counselling and Consulting, care is taken to ensure that each person who walks through the door feels welcomed, respected, and supported from the very start. The practice was built on the belief that everyone deserves access to a space that is compassionate, non-judgmental, and centred on genuine human connection. Whether you are navigating something recent or carrying experiences from the past, you will be met with empathy, understanding, and a steady presence throughout the process.
A collaborative, client-centered approach guides all aspects of care, with therapy thoughtfully tailored to each individual’s unique needs, goals, and experiences. Drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), EMDR (basic training), and Gottman Method Levels 1 and 2, the focus is on deepening insight, strengthening coping strategies, and supporting meaningful, sustainable change. Each therapeutic relationship is approached with intention, ensuring that care remains responsive, flexible, and aligned with what matters most to you.
Services are offered to children, youth, adults, couples, and families, navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioural concerns, parental separation, school-related challenges, and a wide range of mental health concerns. Attention is given not only to present-day challenges, but also to the underlying patterns and experiences that may be contributing to them. Through this process, the goal is to foster resilience, support growth, and help clients move toward a greater sense of balance and well-being in their daily lives.
At the heart of Heal Therapy Counselling and Consulting is a strong commitment to creating meaningful therapeutic relationships. Feeling seen, heard, and understood is essential to the healing process, and every effort is made to cultivate an environment where that connection can develop naturally and authentically.
Heather Mikkelsen is a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and the founder of Heal Therapy Counselling and Consulting.
